About SISROUNDSQUARE

Thinking Globally in the Context of Mumbai, India, and Asia

Singapore International School is a boarding and day school which offers a global education in a unique curricular mix. Upper Division students (Grades 11 and 12) work toward the International Baccalaureate Diploma; Middle Division studies (Grades 7 through 10) are geared to the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) exams.  At the Primary level (K1 through Grade 6) the curriculum is based on the Singapore education system, with adaptations to Indian culture.

A Savoury Blend of Academics, Highly Spiced with Arts, Sports, Service and International Experiences

At all levels, SIS infuses the academic curriculum with an equally strong mix of arts, sports and games, service activities, and international experiences. Our students excel in Model United Nations conferences, winning international honours and hosting their own MUN. They perform experimental theatre (as well as Shakespeare) and make their own films. They study Indian classical music and dance as well as the Western musical tradition – and they have student-led bands, even in the elementary grades.  SIS students participate in cultural study trips which take them to play in European football tournaments, to hike the Great Wall of China, to study at NASA training centres and to debate world issues at Ivy League universities.

Our Graduates Succeed

SIS graduates now study successfully in highly selective universities in the US, Canada and the UK, including Yale, Brown, Carnegie Mellon, Upenn, Georgia Tech, UC-Berkeley, Toronto, Waterloo, the London School of Economics, Oxford and the University of Warwick, as well as top Indian universities.

Global Perspectives in Innovative Programmes

SIS emphasizes a global perspective on learning at all levels. The school conducts student exchange programmes with Singapore, Malaysia, China, Canada, Germany, UK and Australia. Cooperative programmes like E.F.I. (Experience the Fascination of India) offer young people from abroad (from 15 to 18 years old) the opportunity to learn about India and discover positive approaches to solving global problems while exploring a rural environment, working with Non-Governmental Organizations, travelling, and learning about the developmental complexities of modern India. Workshops and lively discussions allow students to explore the socio-economic, political and cultural framework of the Indian subcontinent. With this understanding, students have opportunities to engage with local communities and the people whose culture, life struggles and expectations are the daily reality of rural India.

A Cosmopolitan Community of Learners

The background of students, faculty, and staff is culturally diverse. Our national and international students study with a faculty drawn from India and overseas. Native speakers teach languages (French, Spanish and German, as well as Hindi) and teachers across the curriculum come from a variety of other countries, including Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, the US, Australia, Singapore, South Africa and the Philippines.
Student CEOs at 18

SIS has been amongst the first schools in Mumbai to initiate strong industry-academia relations.  Industry experts are regularly invited to come and share their business strategies and experiences.  Business leaders regularly visit the campus for symposia and conferences with students who receive the benefits of their know-how and advice, spurring them on to research, to network, and to go on to internships with businesses in their holiday and vacation periods.

Ideas Start Here!

We take great pride in educating smart, highly-motivated, successful graduates who are prepared to work on the cutting edge of innovation and research in new ideas. It is our endeavour at SIS to provide a consistently high quality of relevant educational experiences, and to help accelerate the careers of all our students into successful professions and businesses. Future doctors, lawyers, teachers, social innovators, entrepreneurs, writers, artists, scientists, engineers – and practitioners of professions which do not as yet have names – will all receive from SIS a sound foundation, strong skills, and the inspiration and vision to carry them through difficult endeavours.

Command Respect with an SIS IB Diploma

Our students’ results speak eloquently for our school’s high standards and success in preparing young people for tomorrow’s academic challenges. In our school’s most recent (May 2011) examination results, SIS students performed in the top quarter to the top third across all subject areas, far exceeding the level of results worldwide. In areas such as Higher Level Economics, Higher Level Business Management, and languages (English A, and Spanish, French and Hindi as foreign languages, SIS students performed at the very top level worldwide, with a class average approaching a perfect seven.  (Please see attached the Results Data of IB – 2010-2011)

In the IGCSE Class of 2011, 54% of all the marks earned on the international Cambridge exams were the highest possible qualifications (A* and A), with 7 students receiving an overall 100% mark in their best 5 subjects. One student achieved the highest A* qualification in all 8 subjects examined, while 5 students topped the world in 10 out of 18 subjects examined. Overall, of the twenty SIS students in this most recent batch, 40% achieved “Distinctions” while 60% achieved “Merit.” (Please see attached the Results Data of IGCSE – 2010-2011)

Building a Sustainable Vision for Tomorrow

Our programme is supported by the Ministry of the Environment and the Government of India. We are working toward environmental sustainability through our use of solar panels for water heating, tree-planting on our campus and elsewhere, and projects such as vermiculture, bird and bat nesting boxes, and the school butterfly garden. Our students cooperate with Project Tiger and carry out activities to promote sustainable technologies in rural villages.

We Work and Play with Passion

We provide an unusually rich mix of sports and activities for our students on a beautifully landscaped ten-acre campus with forest vistas of neighbouring Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Our Day Scholars, Weekly Boarders and Term Boarders enjoy sports on our playing fields and our other sports installations, including badminton, baseball, basketball, cricket, cross country, field hockey, football, gymnastics, horse riding, lawn tennis, rugby, swimming, table tennis, and yoga.

Student Clubs Promote Inquiry and Innovation

In addition to many student-led club activities in the arts, languages, hobbies, and technology and science, we offer a chapter of Rotary INTERACT which gives older students responsibility for taking a leadership role in the community. We are also extremely privileged to have CEE (Centre for Environment Education), whose primary objective is to improve public awareness and understanding of the environment, with a view toward promoting the conservation and sustainable use of nature and natural resources.

Core Value

Engaging Minds – The school’s curriculum and teaching methodology have been designed in a very practical and learner centric manner.  Students are encouraged to think creatively and acquire knowledge through innovative ways that test their analytical and problem solving skills.

Touching Hearts – We understand that each student is different in his/her interests and abilities.  Our faculties extend a helping hand to each one of them and bring out their greatest potential.  Besides, the students are sensitized to global issues such as environment, peace, poverty and conflict resolution among others.

Dignity in Action – While the students are equipped for the competitive global arena through a constructive learning process, they are also taught that winning is not everything in life.  Besides, sound moral values are inculcated into each student with the objective of grooming responsible and dignified global citizens.

A Sense of Enterprise – The entire curriculum has been designed to impart education with a global perspective, which inspires the students to broaden their horizon and think big.
